ADVANTAGES OF THE ScanScience PRO KITS

    a) Scanner Calibration for Maximum Sharpness and film placement at the scanner's
    Optimal  Plane of Focus

Scanners are known to vary their optimal plane of focus from the nominal spec. The ScanScience TKK Pro takes this into consideration
and allows precise adjustment of the plane of focus, above and below the specified nominal elevation.  This is illustrated below for the
Epson V scanners but applies similarly to kits for other flatbed scanners. The calibrated shims provided allow calibration of the scanner's
    optimum plane of focus.

    b)  Enhanced Optics: Fluid scanning without additional Refraction

FIG. 1 -  With the Epson tray for the V scanners, the image forming light travels through a total of 4 mm of glass
(2 mm + 2 mm) before reaching the sensors.
FIG. 2, 3  With the ScanScience Pro Kit, the image-forming light emerging from the film is NOT refracted by the
                 adapter's glass plate avoiding degradation.
Fig. 3     shows that the film elevation can be adjusted by fractions of a mm. to match the optimum focus plane of the
actual unit,  which may differ from the nominal optimal 2 mm.

    More About the Kits
    and Fluid Scanning

  •       Fluid Mounting has
    the potential for greatly
    improving the quality of
your images but it can be
    undermined by refraction
    if additional glass is
    placed between the film
    and the sensors.
  •        With the Pro Kit, the
    film is placed under the
    fluid mounting plate, not
above it as with the Epson
    adapter.
  •        The adapter tray that
    comes with the Epson
scanner has a two (2) mm
    thick glass plate.  The
    ScanScience Pro kit uses
an optical plate just 1 mm
    thick, -the thickness of a
    microscope slide.
  •        Because the
    ScanScience plate is
    placed above the film, it
    does not filter the light
    from the film that creates
    the image.
  •        The ScanScience
    TKK Pro aligns the film
    perfectly to the custom-
    sized glass for the format
    you order, and the adapter
    automatically masks all
    the area around the film
    for maximum dynamic
    range and Dmax.
