FLUID SCAN YOUR  FILM SCANNER
TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL
With the ScanScience system you  prepare the fluid mount
and place it on the scaner's regular holder, then tape the
ends. You do not need a glass holder only theregular  holder, saving
you hundreds of dollars in glass holders or special wet mount holders.
 You just remove the cover in the regular holder and you are ready to
start fluid scanning.  ScanScience has eliminated the need for glass
holders which it suprpasses in quality.

    Film Scanners allow  light to go through the film directly to the
    lens and the sensors without suffering degradation from image
    refracting glass.

    This inherent advantage of the film scanner is lost by film
    curvature which causes uneven focus.  Also,  light scattering at
    the grain loss of sharpness and colour saturation result from
    dry scanning.

    To counter film curvature, glass carriers were proposed as a
    solution, but Newton rings made the 'solution' unworkable.  Anti-
    Newton glass was then proposed but that came with some
    loss in image quality because  anti newton (AN) glass is not
    perfectly clear glass nor is it a cure for problems inherent in dry
    scanning such as light scattering.    

    The ScanScience system addresses these issues by
    achieving film flatness by fluid mounting the film to scanning
    glass in a non-refractive position.  With the ScanScience
    system the troublesome issues of film curvature and Newton
    rings are banned and replaced by a superior optical system in
    which film is perfectly flat and  yields the brilliance associated
    with fluid scanning.   
    The ScanScience fluid scan is more brilliant and has  a
    smoother tonal range, higher color saturation, greater dynamic
    range, and dMax.  As an added benefit you get also dust and
    scratch healing which does not degrade the image or slow
    down the scan, as digital dust and scratch procedures do. On  
    a Nikon Coolscan 9000 a high resolution scan with ICE set to
    standard took 6.75 minutes. A fluid scan without ICE and the
    same settings took only 4 minutes. The fluid mount can be
    assembled in under 2 minutes.

    Only a few words to say that I made the
    mounting and scanned my first b/w
    negatives without problems ( I got some
    bubbles at the first mounts but with some
    practice it's not difficult to avoid them ) .

Fluid Scanning achieves optical perfection in the scan. To
benefit from perfection of the optics requires software that
can burn the highlights and dig into the shadows if need be
to maximize dynamic range. These unique capabilities are
found in Silverfast Ai.  The data missed in the scan is lost
forever and cannot be created in Photoshop.   Best results
from the Nikon 8000/9000 or any scanner requires fluid
scanning and Silverfast Ai, key to the perfect scan.
